I have never thought much about Phil Collins. In my mind, he did bad covers of Supremes songs, played the drums in Genesis, and is the man who gave us “Invisible Touch”. I could have done with out all of that. He is responsible for “In the Air Tonight” which is cool in Risky Business and even cooler in the gorilla ad, which I cannot link to. But, I have almost changed my mind on Collins after hearing his solo version of “Behind the Lines”. I knew it as a blah Genesis song, but the version below is really pretty great with the horns and such.

This is the first thing in the while that I have felt a need to share. But, it is just too good. It is from a short from 1945.

Sadly, I have not been able to figure out who the female singer is. However, the male singer is Tex Williams. He is famous for his hit “Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that cigarette. That is the song at the beginning of the movie “Thank You for Smoking”. I have included two versions of that below. The first is the original. The second is a cover by Asleep at the Wheel.

I was given a disk called “Music De Wolf Vol 1.” the other day. It is fantastic. Basically, it is a collection of in house tunes recoded in the 1970’s for De Wolfe Sound Library in the 1970’s. The tracks are the kinds of tunes you hear in car-chase scenes, fights, and commercials. Funky beyond belief and just slightly generic and a little cheesy. Hard-Hitter, the 1st tune is a staple for Baltimore house DJ’s. Since damn near no one has heard this collection, or has access to it. I have made it available here as a rapidshare download. Enjoy.

This is another collection made based on request. I was asked to make a Tom Petty collection. That list is here. I tried to make it small enough to burn to a cd for car listening. Since there already is a Tom Petty Greatest Hits in addition to an Anthology, I added more of things I like than what would necessarily make a best of. I also knowingly did not include a bunch of the more popular songs that I personally find annoying. Anyway, it is still a pretty representative collection.  Enjoy !
