As Quentin Tarintino said- “Of course I like surf music! It’s like rock and spaghetti westerns mixed!”…Well here is some surf music, and some Spaghetti Western music too.

Ok…so technically Duane Eddy is not surf rock…but it is damn close, The Ventures talk about him all the time, and this is badass.
The Ventures are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…that is all.
Yesterday I was testing these new headphones I bought (skullcandy…dumb name but they sound good for the cost). Anyway, as everyone knows, you test these types of things with Steely Dan. It is not that “the dan” is that great, but they work a studio and every album they make is perfect sounding. When I was listening to “Peg” it occurred to me that De La Soul sampled it. That led to this. A couple of the songs that sample Steely Dan. I begin with the Peg, and follow it with “Eye Know” the De La song that samples it. I follow that with a live version of Black Cow, and Gas Drawls, by MF Doom…the worlds best masked avant hip-hop artist. Oh yeah and if the Dan does not have street credit with you…google where the name comes from…hint…it is a steam powered something.
I am a big fan of all things Talking Head. This includes “Genius of Love”, the great tune by the Tom Tom Club. The song is a bit electronic, a bit dance and all cool. It has also been sampled about a million times. Some of the samples are familiar, think Mariah Carey. Others are much more rare. For your enjoyment I give you just a few of these. I start with the original, and the really innovative video that goes with it. Than I give you the live version from “Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads concert flick . After that, a whole bunch of tunes that sample it.
